Dr. Elizabeth Gomes, DO

Family Medicine & Obstetrics

Dr. Elizabeth Gomes is a highly skilled and compassionate family medicine and obstetrics physician dedicated to serving the communities of Pawtucket and Central Falls. As a proud native of the area, she grew up in a Cabo Verdean household, attending Central Falls High School before earning her B.A. in Neuroscience from Connecticut College. Driven by a passion for providing equitable, culturally competent care, Dr. Gomes pursued her medical degree at Ohio University and completed her family medicine residency at Firelands Regional Medical Center.

Her commitment to global health led her to train in Mexico and Kenya, experiences that deepened her understanding of healthcare disparities and strengthened her ability to provide inclusive, patient-centered care. Recognizing the critical need for accessible healthcare in her hometown—home to one of the largest non-English-speaking Cabo Verdean communities—Dr. Gomes returned to Rhode Island to bridge the healthcare gap.

Dr. Gomes further refined her expertise through Brown University’s prestigious Maternal Child Health Fellowship in Pawtucket, where she gained advanced training in prenatal care, obstetrics, and surgical procedures. Since completing her fellowship in 2014, she has remained steadfast in her mission to serve her community, holding a faculty position as an Assistant Professor of Family Medicine at Brown University and training future physicians at Women & Infants Hospital.

At WTL Health Clinic, Dr. Gomes is committed to ensuring that high-quality, compassionate healthcare is accessible to all, particularly underserved and immigrant populations. Fluent in Spanish and Cabo Verdean Creole, she provides culturally responsive care, empowering patients with the knowledge and resources they need to live healthier lives.

Dr. Gomes believes that healthcare should be a right, not a privilege, and she is honored to be part of WTL Health Clinic’s mission to restore health and transform lives.
